Michael with members of his family.
At a celebration with his family, UNITY’s basketball commissioner Michael Withers was honored with a lifetime achievement award from AmeriCorps and the office of the President of the United States (Biden). Withers was recognized for his incredible volunteer work over his lifetime. At a Black History Month celebration at The African & Caribbean International Leadership Conference on February 28, he was presented with a certificate that read, “President’s Lifetime Achievement Award for their lifelong commitment to building a stronger nation through volunteer service.”
Michael has been a pillar of our community, volunteering thousands of hours to help the lives of children and families. In a beautiful Facebook post from his wife Djuna, she described the meaning and magnitude of this award, “Through God, your boundless compassion and tireless efforts have touched countless lives, and now your remarkable contributions are being celebrated on a grand scale.
You inspire me every day with your kindness, generosity, and unwavering sense of purpose. This award is not only a recognition of your extraordinary work but also a reflection of the incredible person you are. I am endlessly proud to stand by your side and witness the impact you have on those around you. Congratulations, my love. You deserve this honor, and I am so grateful to share this journey with you. Here’s to many more years of making a difference and inspiring others with your incredible heart.”
All of us are so proud to have such a dedicated man as part of our UNITY family. Congratulations, Michael!
