Football Programs

Register Now!

UNITY provides two primary football programs: fall tackle football and spring tackle football. The programs are intended to develop football skills, encourage physical fitness, and promote mentoring opportunities for youth, both boys and girls, from 5 to 15 years of age. UNITY is a very competitive association with many past championship teams. In 2014, four of our six football teams reached the divisional playoffs with our 14U team ultimately playing for the Divisional GMYFL Championship. Most recently, in the 2016 Spring season, our 14U and 15U teams won the GMYFL Spring 5 week challenge. In the 2015 season, all of our competitive teams over 6U made the playoffs in both the GMYFL and the RFL leagues that we participated in.  Our Pony team (7U) played in the Rockville Football League Super Bowl and our 8th grade team went on to win the Middle School League Championship in the RFL!! We believe, and teach, that you play to WIN, but understand that losing is always a possibility when you compete; it becomes a learning and growth opportunity. How you face victory is as important as how you face defeat; both with dignity and respect for self and opponent. UNITY, through its football programs and experience, is focused on building men and women of refined character and high self-confidence. Hopefully, one of our programs below will be a fit for your child, and you will become part of the UNITY family. UNITY - a tradition of excellence.

Fall Tackle Football (2017)

The fall tackle football program is 11 on 11 full contact football governed primarily by high school federation rules. Traditionally, the season begins in late July and ends in early November. Approximately, 8 regular season games are played on consecutive Saturdays starting in September, with playoffs and championships taking place in November.

Timeline (2017): Registration begins May 1st. Official practices begin the week of July 24th. Equipment handout August 5th. Full equipment practices begin August 7th.

Equipment: UNITY will provide each player with a helmet, shoulder pads, mouthpiece, and practice and game jersey. The player is responsible for providing his/her own padded practice pants (preferably black) and cleats.

Practice Location(s) and Times: Practice location(s) for 2017 at Benjamin Banneker Middle School (behind the school) 14800 Perrywood Drive, Burtonsville, MD. 20866.  Practices will be scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday with scrimmages on Saturdays, starting July 22nd, during the summer until the Montgomery school year begins.  When school begins, practices will be Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during the week with games on most Saturdays. The practice field is available from 5:30 to 8:00pm; the head coach will determine exact practice hours, but most begin at 6:00pm. Game locations and times are determined by the league. The full game schedule will be available the week before the first scheduled game in September (current schedule not yet available).

Requirements: Each player must have a valid Maryland Identification Card issued by the MVA, a valid passport, or a military ID as proof of their age. This ID must be presented at each game in order for the player to participate. Residents of the District of Columbia may request a League ID when the other three forms of identification cannot be obtained.

Registration Fee(s): Normal registration fees per player is $165.00 which includes league insurance fees. An early registration discount is provided to any player that registers and pays in full before June 15th (see registration form for discount amount). For players that would like to pay over time, a monthly plan can be used if registration is submitted with a down-payment in or before May. In addition, a $100.00 equipment deposit will need to be made per player on equipment distribution day in August. This deposit is fully refundable. If a check is used, the check will not be deposited unless the loaned equipment is not returned in full.

Teams: UNITY is a proud member of the Rockville Football League (RFL) which has been a long standing weight based league in Montgomery County for over 50 years. We are looking to field 6 teams in the RFL this season in the following age groups: Ankle Biters (7U), Pony (9U), Pee Wee (11U), Intermediate (11-13), and an 8th grade team.

UNITY is also a member of the Select Elite Championship Football League (SECFL) for our 6th, 7th & 8th Grade teams! (This is a highly competitive league where the top high schools in the nation will watch your child play each week) http://www.secfl.net/

*The elite teams have a roster capacity of 25 players and will be fielded through tryouts only. Any player that doesn't qualify for an elite team will be placed on a competitive age-based team.

Spring Tackle Football (2017)

The spring tackle football program is 11-on-11 contact football governed primarily by NFHS football rules. Traditionally, the season begins in late March and ends in the first week of June. Six (6) regular season games will be played over 6 weeks on consecutive Saturdays starting on April 1st, with playoffs and championships taking place the first weekend of June. Games are played with a running clock of four 15 minutes quarters.

Emphasis of spring football is the development of passing, catching, blocking, running and position specific play. This is an opportunity for your child to learn fundamentals and get prepared for the fall tackle season, or experience some sports based exercise that in general promotes good health.

Timeline (2017): Registration begins January 15, 2017 for the spring 2017 season. Official practices begins March 11th. Registration ends April 8th.

Equipment: UNITY will provide each player with a helmet, shoulder pads, mouthpiece, and practice and game jersey. The player is responsible for providing his/her own padded practice pants (preferably black) and cleats.

Practice Location(s) and Times: Practices will be held at Benjamin Banneker Middle School Field #3, 14800 Perrywood Drive, Burtonsville, MD. 20866, on Tuesdays and Thursdays with games or scrimmages on Saturdays. The practice field is available from 5:30 to 8:00pm; the head coach will determine exact practice hours, but will be no more 2 hours per practice. Game locations and times are determined by the league. The full game schedule can be found here.

Requirements: Each player must have a valid Maryland Identification Card issued by the MVA, a valid passport, or a military ID as proof of their age. This ID must be presented at each game in order for the player to participate. Residents of the District of Columbia may participate with a DC One card and a copy of the latest report card.

Registration Fee: Registration fees per player is $ 125.00.

Teams: This season, UNITY will compete in the IYSFL (Independent Youth Spring Football League). UNITY supports an age-based approach to competition with 1 or more teams at the 6U, 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U and 16U levels. Eligibility to play on a given IYSFL team  is based on the player's age as of June 1st of the current year (2017). In example, if a player is 8 years old now, but will be 9 years old before June 1, 2017, he/she is eligible to play with our 9 and Under (9U) team; and if a player is 16, but will not turn 17 before June 1st, he/she is eligible to play on the 16U team.
